Arbor Day

Today is Arbor Day, a day to nurture and plant trees and our landscapes.

The day started back in 1874 with prizes offered for the state that planted the most trees.  Nebraska earned the rewards that year.

According to the US government, 22 million trees were planted and 285,000 acres of land were reforested.

For those of us living in the suburbs we have many trees around us.  All different types, evergreen and deciduous.  

During spring there are beautiful buds that suddenly appear, last a little while then give way to green leaves.

What’s important for each of us is to pay attention to the trees around us. They help our environment and for many provide lovely shade in the summer.

Every last Friday in April on Arbor Day is a day to nurture our trees and if you have an opportunity to plant trees in your area.

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary there is also an initiative around our forests.  It is called Forests250.

Private Home Health Care loves walks in nature.  This Arbor Day when we have a walk we will pay special attention to the different trees in our midst.
